IFMag and ePALS helps Hallie find a pen pal, come read along...

Hi Readers,

Last month we signed off on our year-long letters between Ellen Blaustein in Maryland, USA and Joy Matter in Berne, Switzerland. Ellen and Joy delighted us with their warm friendship and musings of life as strong women, mothers, grandmothers, community organizers, professionals, and ultimately as human beings. (Please read the 2006 Global Pen Pal archives to enjoy their letters). We looked forward to every month of wisdom and humor they shared with us. Thank you Ellen and Joy. We look forward to your continued writings with us here at International Family Magazine.

This month, February 2007 we launch a new year of Global Pen Pals. Year 2007 we will shift in age and understanding. This year we will follow two young people that have never met and do not know one another yet. On this side of the world, International Family Magazine introduces Hallie from New York, N.Y. Please readers, help me in welcoming Hallie,

“I am a 5th grader (ten-years-old) at the Mott Hall School for the gifted and talented in Math, Science and Computer Technology. I have 1 mother, 1 father and a little sister named Zadie who is four years old. I live in Washington Heights, New York where I take piano lessons. I used to go to the local school, P.S. 187, but I switched schools in 4th grade. I enjoy Acting, singing, dancing, and playing the piano.”

Thank you Hallie, welcome, welcome. IFMag will be working with ePALS, Inc. at www.epals.com to find Hallie a pen pal. When we did our research, we found ePALS, Inc. to be exactly what we were looking for in a global pen pal organization. Why? Because at ePALS they are safe and protected for Hallie to explore a new friend and a new world without any worries. The internet is such a powerful tool, but like most powerful things, it can also be dangerous. ePALS makes it there business to keep the internet an awesome adventure. Here is how ePALS, Inc. describes themselves,

"Over the past decade, ePALS, Inc. has created and delivered their services to schools, teachers, students and families. ePALS has been the recognized leader and trusted provider of K-12 school-safe and protected email, blogs and eMentoring tools to school districts and classrooms. ePALS is also the first global K-12 collaborative learning and literacy community, focused specifically on fostering reading, writing and critical thinking skills across the curriculum. At ePALS our mission is to support lifelong learning through resource-rich, collaborative experiences about subjects that empower and inspire."

So IF readers, as you enjoyed our first year with Ellen and Joy, we hope you enjoy 2007 with Hallie and a new friend in a foreign land. Right in front of our eyes, we will read along as two strangers from different lands get to know one another. I look forward to their discovery.

Happy adventure,
Catherine
