As editor of International Family Magazine, I am also a teacher by day. 7 Years ago, I was either going to run IF Mag full time, or teach full time. I fell in love with teaching. To date, I have directly taught 700 hundred students and worked with probably 500 more. That humbles me. What impact do I have? I have been surprised and further humbled by the cards, letters, emails, and phone calls from former students. The things they say that impacted them again, surprises and humbles me. It is less what I teach, and more who I am and how I teach it. The other week , a student called me and said she wanted to become a teacher because of me. We had a great conversation, and I was touched. I asked her what I had done to her think of becoming a teacher. She told me a story about my acceptance of people and how I would reteach every lesson until EVERYONE understood. She told me about a side conversation about how to make money off real estate investments which had nothing to do with English Language Arts or reading and writiing. So, I relaunch Education Exchange with a question – when we think about education…..what do we think is important to our youth?
Happy reading, Cat
