n 2010-2011, we will have another pair of friends write to one another and share their insights with one another. In the past years, we have read the exchanges of Ellen/United States and her friend Joy/Switzerland. Ellen and Joy wrote as mothers, professional retirees, and grandparents. Then we read a few intergenerational exchanges between Cat/United States and Hella/Germany. Hella wrote as mother, retired physician and grandparent from Germany. Cat wrote as a mother, youth group leader and educator. In 2010-2011, we will hear from "Maboo" and "Sire". These nicknames are born of a 28 year friendship on the different coastlines of the United States, the Pacific Northwest of Bainbridge Island, Washington and along the eastern seaboard. Catherine, or "Sire" is our IF mag editor as well as a mother and educator. Marcy or "Maboo" is a mother and private practice therapist. They met in a boarding school in the 1980s and have remained friends through high school, college, european residency, travels, weddings, childbirth and all other life adventures and travails.
Enjoy the reading!
or our Global Pen Pal, Year 2009, we will go in yet another direction in our global letter writing. This year we will try to engage an intergenerational discussion across cultures, generations with 2 people who have never met before. I have been kindly introduced to Hella Kramer in Bonn, Germany. Hella is a retired physician, mother and grandmother living in Europe. I am an active working mother of 2 boys, age 4 and 6, with aging parents. I am the founder and managing editor of IF mag (my name is Cat Wayland) and I teach as a substitute teacher. I should like us to write to one another when the time is available and find out one another's perspective. I hope to learn much and make a new friend.
